Dymo Label Maker Frequently Asked Questions
a. Why does my Dymo print blank labels?
There are several possible reasons as to why your Dymo label maker is printing blank labels. You can determine its exact cause by pressing the gray button under the slot that dispenses the labels. If your LabelWriter can only produce a single label, this means that there’s a problem with the information you entered.
If the printer can produce multiple label sheets, this generally means that the sensor is dirty. Dymo Labelwriter printers use thermal printing technology to create the desired texts and images on labels. The machines scan each label paper for specific areas that received chemical treatment, which darkens once heated. With a dirty sensor, the scanner will have trouble identifying those heat-sensitive areas, resulting in labels that come out blank.
b. Can you network a Dymo label printer?
You can easily network a Dymo label printer by sharing it through a network using the Dymo Print Server. The Print Server from Dymo allows you to connect every workstation on a network to a single Dymo LabelWriter printer. That includes one or multiple Mac and PC users connecting to a LabelWriter 400, 450 or 4XL machine.
You can also do this through a Windows Network and avoid spending money purchasing a Dymo Print Server. Start by opening the Printers folder: Start > Settings > Printers or Start > Control Panel > Printers & Faxes. Find and right-click the LabelWiriter you want to network and then click on Sharing.
Install the DLS (Dymo Free Label Software) from a different PC on your network. Click on Network / LAN once Windows prompts you to select a connection type and complete the on-screen instructions. Once the installation is complete, you can start printing Dymo 450 labels with the LabelWriter from local and network workstations.
c. Can Dymo print barcodes?
Printing barcodes is fast and easy with the free Dymo Label Software (DLS). The DLS is part of the package when purchasing a brand new printer and can also be downloaded from Dymo. You can start by selecting your label size and then dragging a barcode onto it. Next, double-click the barcode to open its properties and then configure its settings to your preference. Choose from various sizes and other options that allow barcode texts to appear above or below, and more.
d. Are Dymo labels waterproof?
Almost all Dymo LabelWriter paper labels have a thermal coating that makes them somewhat resistant to water – provided they are wiped off quickly. To make them impervious to the effects of water, Dymo also made certain labels with plastic/polypropylene material. The result is a completely waterproof label paper.
